FOR WRITERS OF SONGS . . . .

THE IDEA
Emerald Earth Publishing’s first book was “Songs For Earthlings: A Green Spirituality Songbook,” 400 pages and 437 songs celebrating Earth/air/fire/water, the wheel of the year in holidays, cycles of life, relationships, prayers, invocations, etc. Our next book will be entitled “Songs For Earthling Choruses” and will have approximately 100 songs on many of the same topics. But instead of having only a lead line and chords, these will be arranged for singers (men’s, women’s, and mixed choruses). Your song might be a chant, or have verses and a chorus, or verses and a bridge; it may be long, or short, or a sing-along. We’re looking for songs on . . .

togetherness, Mother Earth, peace, kindness, aging, getting along with each other, Seventh Generation, mindfulness, the future, prayers, love songs, taking care of each other, etc.

. . . which are suitable for arrangement for choruses. This is not a contest, and there is no limit to the number of songs you can submit. We’re hoping to have the songs selected by July 1, 2005; but if it gets close to that date and you want to submit a song, please call to see how we’re coming. We’re also looking for song arrangers.

WHAT TO SEND
Notate the song with the melody line and chords, or as a choral arrangement and send the hard copy, AND send a tape or CD of the song. You’ll need to print out the Agreement below, fill it out, sign it, and send in a copy with each song. The coyright of the song remains with you, but you must agree to allow the song to be both copied and performed with no payment of royalties to you. (The recording of songs in another issue: you must be paid, in a separate arrangement, if your song is recorded. That will be between you and the group that wants to record the song.) You will also give permission for the song to be arranged (if it’s not already).

COMPENSATION
You get a copy of the finished book, but no financial compensation. You can buy more books at bookstore discounts (1-3 copies at 20% discount; 4+ copies at 40% discount) to resell (that’s where you can make money); Emerald Earth Publishing will handle the wholesale accounts.

At the end of the book there will be a “Marketplace” section where your tapes and CDs will be listed, along with your contact information.

This gets your name out there. It gets righteous music out into a world that is sadly in need of kindness, calmness, sensible/rational, loving behavior. Your songs can help save the world.
