Simple Ceremonies' 27 rituals celebrate our life passages, friendships,
seasons of the Earth-year, and the friendships and blessings of
community. It functions as a wonderful beginner's
book, with information on ritual formats and parts, sigils, guided
meditations, and ten pages of resource materials. It's also a
powerful priestess' book, with in-depth ideas for croning rituals,
decade circles, and a wonderfully foolish celebration of the Great
Goddess April Foola.
“The
Circle’s coming in half an hour and I forgot to plan the
ritual!”

“I was deeply moved by the intimacy and spiritualness
of the ceremonies.”
Easy
to prepare rituals that go deep
"Rituals
so simple, yet profound and deep. Really transforming and moving."

How
this book came to be...
“Once
upon a time, in a place called Maine, there was a group of women
who gathered every Monday evening to do rituals to celebrate
their lives – to tell their stories, to meditate, to cry
and laugh together and to sing. They didn’t want to forget
their rituals, so they wrote them down in a book and drew beautiful
pictures to decorate them....”
The Feminist Spiritual Community of Portland, Maine, grew out
of a course on Women and Religion in which rituals were done as
a class project. When the course eneded, many of the women expressed
a desire to create a women-only space to take seriously their
own knowing and experiences and explore and do ritual apart from
the usual context of the patriarchy.
pppThese rituals have come from individual traditions, needs,
and creativity. Because the personal is often political, there
are rituals in each section of the book with political dimensions.
The rituals we have done have inspired us to act and have challenged
us to live our visions of peace and justice. As one member observed,
“Our rituals don’t end at 9 pm on Monday nights....”
“Something
inside of me cried out in longing for the connectedness with
other women that exists in the spiritual community you are in.
I have experience yet another awakening because your community
has touched my life.”
